August 16th, 2010 was a pretty good night for the Baltimore Orioles.

The O’s rallied to tie their game in the 10th, and won the game in the 11th with a walk-off bunt from Adam Jones. This ended a two-game losing streak, and started the home-stand with a win. The bullpen combined to pitch 5.2 innings last night, allowing just 1 er.

Most importantly the O’s signed their 1st round draft-pick (and 3rd selection overall) High-school SS Manny Machado. Machado signed a $5.25M signing bonus, which is the second-largest bonus received by an Orioles draft-pick. (Matt Wieters)

I feel particularly good for Orioles Amateur Scouting Director Joe Jordan. With negotiations coming down to the final minutes before the deadline, the O’s were able to get the deal done. Earlier this month Jordan said to me, “There is no credit for players you do not sign.” Well, the O’s got it done, and deserve the credit for doing so.

If everything goes as expected for Machado next-spring, I imagine he will begin his full-season professional career at Delmarva in ’11. This would put him in-line for a promotion to Frederick in 2012. If Machado advances to Bowie the following-year, he would likely be a 1/2 season of production away from possible promotion to Baltimore. If everything goes great, you are looking at a mid-2013 arrival for Machado. If there are any snags, you could be looking at some-time in 2014.
