It appears that the Ravens will sign released New York Giant Wide Receiver David Tryee, next week.

The reason for signing him next-week, as opposed to now, is all contract-related in regards to guaranteed salary.

Tyree has a reputation of being a strong Special Teams player, that would come in as the 5 WR, and provide depth.

I am sure the 29 year-old, 6’0 206 lb Tyree can handle that role.

However, if you want to improve the Ravens wide-receiving core, is Tyree the right option?

He spent all of 2008 on IR with a knee injury, and has never produced much as a receiver. Obviously his Super Bowl reception was an extremely clutch difficult catch on the biggest stage in the sport; but part of the mystique was that it was David Tryee making the play.

Another former Giant was released last week, when KC parted ways with Amani Toomer.

Toomer turned 35 on Wednesday. If you were signing him, with the intent of relying on him, you would be in trouble.

If you were signing him to be a reliable option off the bench, he could be a valuable addition off the bench.

In 2008, Toomer played in all 16 games, catching 48 balls, for 580 yards.

If the Ravens needed one of the two to make some plays, I know which former Giant WR I would be more comfortable with.
