The Baltimore Orioles swept the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, winning 2-1 today to at Citizen’s Bank Park.

With the win, the O’s moved to 32-37 overall, and have won 5 games in a row.

Philadelphia took the early 1-0 lead, as Greg Dobbs homered off of Jeremy Guthrie in the bottom of the 2nd.

Dobbs was starting in place of Ryan Howard, who was hospitalized for the 2nd straight day.

The Dobbs homer was the 17th homer allowed by Guthrie in 2009. (23 allowed in 2007, 24 allowed in 2008).

Despite that homer, it overall a very solid outing for Guthrie, as he claimed the win. In 7 innings of work, Guthrie allowed just 3 hits, the 1 er, 2 bb’s, and had 4 k’s.

The O’s faced the dominating lefty Cole Hamels and had to claw at him all day.

In the 6th, the Orioles scored when Adam Jones singled in Brian Roberts with two-outs.

In the 8th, Roberts singled in Robert Andino who had doubled.

George Sherrill pitched all three games of this series, and grabbed a save for the 2nd-straight day with a scoreless 9th.

Nick Markakis, and Aubrey Huff both had day off with Hamels on the mound.

Baltimore will head to Miami to face the Marlins for three games starting Tuesday.
