The Baltimore Sun reported yesterday that Nolan Reimold is going to miss several games with AAA Norfolk with a family matter.

It was widely circulated that Reimold had a lot of issues going on earlier this year with the birth of his daughter. If you are a human, you can understand how issues like that can effect you in all facets of life.

However, even with that understanding and empathy, we all go through personal issues. You can not allow issues from the outside to effect your on-the-job performance over a prolonged period of time.

This might wind-up being a lost year for Reimold at this point, but I am still very high on him. He has two really strong attributes that will always serve him well. The first being he has true legitimate power to all fields, and the second being he always hustles. He is very enjoyable to watch play because he runs every ball out and clearly enjoys playing.

Throw in the facts that he has good plate discipline, and is a good athlete – and you have a player with obvious potential. The flip-side is that he is 27 in October, and 2010 was important because you wanted to see how he handled the adjustments the league were going to make to him. Let us not get carried away with his 83 at-bats for the Birds earlier this year. They were what they were, 83 at-bats. It is fair to count them in the overall evaluation, but you have to put a proper weight on those results. While his play has improved recently in AAA, I am more bothered by his lack of overall production in his 138 at-bats there.

Still, this is the same player that produced the following the previous two seasons:

2009 MLB: 358 at-bats, .279 average, 15 homers, 18 doubles, 45 rbi, 47 walks, 77 k’s, .831 OPS
2009 AAA: 109 at-bats, .394 average, 9 homers, 11 doubles, 27 rbi, 18 walks, 25 k’s, 1.228 OPS
2008 AA: 507 at-bats, .284 average, 25 homers, 25 doubles, 84 rbi, 63 walks, 82 k’s, .868 OPS
