Since the freshman season of Joe Smith and Keith Booth, I have missed about maybe 5 University of Maryland games, including exhibitions…. having either watched on TV, or listened to Johnny Holiday on the radio…

Today, I was going to a funeral service for a family member and was not going to be able to watch today’s game live, so I put it on DVR to watch when I got home.

Well, the DVR did not record the game, so I just signed on-line to check out the result.

I see MD was absolutely destroyed 85-44.

Couple of thoughts:

  • Watching family grieve death puts sports back into perspective.
  • Losing by 41 pts even at Duke is just not acceptable.
  • Duke showed where they are as a team… and so did Maryland.

That all said, Duke is not 41 points better than MD… it was just a strong showing by Duke, and a pathetic outing by the Terps.

Duke was 12 of 25 from 3… Duke is capable of doing that vs anyone, but that is them shooting at their best…. you knew if that happened, you would be in for a long day.

MD lost on the boards 52-29…. considering how MD had competed on the boards against Michigan St, Michigan, and their first 4 ACC foes… that disparity says more about the Terps effort today, vs anything else.

Terps were 18-64 from the field, 2 of 12 from 3, and 6 of 12 from the line…. you give credit to Duke for some of the defense, but that is just MD being completely inept.

I thought MD would likely keep it close today for 20-30 mts, and probably lose the game late… for them to get crushed from the opening bell is just dissapointing.

Terps did a great job of shaking off the beatdown from Georgetown and moving on…. but this will be harder to do.

Against Georgetown, it was the third game in three days, on a neutral court. It was somewhat understandable.

Getting run out of the building vs Duke, after being off for three days is harder to explain.

Watch the rematch of this game in College Park… MD might not win, but I will be shocked if MD does not make it a game.

More important than that, are the games next week vs Boston College and Miami. Both games are at home, and MD will need both wins.
