Brian Matusz was pulled tonight after providing 6 innings of work. While you ultimately want to get to the point where Matusz is regularly working into the later innings, I think it was the right decision tonight to remove him.

With the O’s scoring two runs in the bottom of the 6th, Matusz could only win and can not lose. For the second consecutive start he gave the O’s a chance to win. Showalter wanted to do everything he could to help build the confidence of the young lefty.

After tonight, Matusz has now allowed 2er in his last 12 ip, with 10 hits, 2 bb’s, and 7 k’s.
