Two things of note today…
1) Rich Hill will throw again today, and try and build off his 25 pitch session Sunday… today he will be throwing his off-speed stuff, instead of all fastball’s as he did previously. If he looks, and feels good… he should get a start this weekend which will give him a chance to be in position to make the team Opening Day.
Especially as the 5th starter, because the 5th could be skipped the first go-around, giving him essentially another week to build up his arm strength.

2) Comments from Trembley on Reimold… I find it a bit irritating to see Trembley say he believes Reimold projects best in LF. That is argument I made all of last year, and wondered aloud why the O’s would be playing him everyday in RF at Bowie, with Markakis obviously entrenched.

Perhaps Reimold would be further along with his defense, if he had been in LF all of last season.

That said, you have gone and obtained Felix Pie this off-season, and the defensive skills of Pie end the chance of Reimold claiming LF in the next year or 2.

Reimold’s best chance of becoming a regular with the Orioles, is the departure of either Huff (contract expires after this season), or Scott.

The only position that Reimold should be playing this season is 1st base.
Put Reimold at 1st, and see how competent he can be there… if not, he could be the DH, with Scott shifting to 1st in 2010.

For those thinking, what would that mean for Brandon Snyder…. I say put him at 3rd, the position he believes he would be best at… and go into 2010 with potential in-house options at 1st, and 3rd for the expiring contracts of Huff, and Mora.

Getting back to Reimold…. In his Double A Career he has had 690 at-bats, with a 290 avg, 44 doubles, 3 triples, 35 homers, 116 rbi, 116 runs, 78 walks, and129 k’s.

That is 1XBH per 8.41 at-bats… the idea that Trembley wants Reimold to work on stike-zone judgment and baserunning is understandable…. The idea that Trembley wants him to work moving runners over, and bunting is laughable.

Reimold might never bat 3rd, or 4th in a Major League lineup…. But he easily projects as a 5th or 6th hitter that produces.
