The University of Maryland again failed to get back to .500 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, dropping a disappointing 63-61 decision at Georgia Tech. Up 40-31 in the 2nd half, Maryland was outscored 32-21 the rest of the way.

The Terrapins fall to 16-12 overall, and 6-8 in the ACC.

The Good:

1) Padgett got MD on the board with a strong move in the post. Securing an offensive board on Len miss (Terps were down 25-23), he gave MD another opportunity. Padgett had 6 points, and 6 boards.

2) With the Terps down 10-2 early, Len entered the game on a MD timeout, and immediately scored. In the 2nd half, Len was working hard on the boards. On the defensive side, Len had 4 blocks, and disrupted a number of other shots. When Faust made a nice backdoor cut, Len found him to pull MD within 1 (55-54). For the game, Len had 6 points, 8 boards, and a steal.

3) Maryland pulled back within 3 (12-9) when Mosley hit a 3 from the wing. Following a couple Georgia Tech 3’s, Mosley made another jumper. In the closing minute of the first half, Mosley hit his fourth 3 pointer of the game. With the Terps down 7 (53-46), Mosley attempted to go to the rim, and was fouled. The Senior finished with 16 points, and 3 boards.

4) Stoglin was struggling to put the ball in the basket from the floor, but was able to get to the line, hitting 7 of his 8 attempts from the charity stripe. With under 2 minutes left, he he had an important drive to put MD up 1 (56-55). Stoglin had 15 points, and 2 steals.

5) A 3 from Faust made it a two point game (20-18).  Another three put the Terps up 30-29. He finished with 4 boards, and just 1 turnover.

6) The Terps used a 12-2 run to end the half with a 37-31 lead.

7) Pankey had 6 boards, 4 coming on the offensive end.

8) MD was 16 of 22 from the foul line.

The Bad:

1) Faust dribbled the ball away on MD’s first possession and compounded the error with a foul as he scrambled for the loose ball. In the 2nd half, he air-balled a FT.

2) Maryland was forced into a timeout at the 17:40 mark of the 1st half, as Georgia Tech jumped out to a 10-2 lead.

3) After pulling within 1 (12-11), the Terps allowed successive 3’s to fall back to a 7 point deficit.

4) Len had two turnovers in the early minutes of the game. In the 2nd half with the Terps up 42-40, Len gave the ball away again. Following a great spin move to the basket, Len blew an open layup.

5) Pankey was 0 for 8 from the floor, missing multiple looks from point-blank range.

6) Parker picked up his 4th foul with over 12 minutes left in the 2nd half, which helped to shorten the MD bench. He fouled out with 6 minutes left when he was called for a charge.

7) Stoglin had a poor shooting game, going just 4 of 16 from the floor, 0 of 5 from 3. With 1:24 left in the game, Stoglin was called for an offensive foul.

8) The Yellow Jackets blocked 7 MD shots.

The Ugly:

1) Maryland was in control, with a 42-33 lead, when they allowed a 9-0 run, letting Georgia Tech to tie the game.

2) The Yellow Jackets had lost 4 in a row, and 1o of their past 11 prior to today. Maryland not winning their 2nd road game of the year today, is one of the more disappointing failures of this year.
