Position Player of the Week: Joel Hutter – SSJoel-Hutter

.440/.500/.520 (11/25) with 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 HBP, 1 BB, 3 K. (A)
Hutter might be the one player I have seen this year that has improved the most. He looks to have calmed his swing at the plate. There is a much more level swing, with less flailing.  It was a “wow” when I saw him this weekend. He already had decent bat speed, so calming the swing was important. He’s also a big kid for up the middle, which is probably why he has moved to 3B. Remember that he is a little old for Delmarva, but he won’t be there long if he continues to hit like this. I’d be interested to see his performance at Frederick.

Starting Pitcher of the Week: Eduardo Rodriguez – LHP

2 GS, 13.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 14 K (A+)
Rodriguez struggled in his first start of the season, but has bounced back in his last two starts. He’s missing bats, and I have heard the uptick in velocity is still prevalent. It will be important to see how that velocity looks over the long run of the season, but these are all good signs for the young LHP.

Relief Pitcher of the Week: Miguel Chalas – RHPMiguel-Chalas

2 G, 7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K (A)
Chalas is repeating Delmarva, but looks a little better than what I saw last year. His mechanics look a little cleaner, and his fastball has some zip on it. He still throws a little too straight for my liking, but I think he can work out of the bullpen. It will be curious to see whether the Orioles keep him there, or move him back to the rotation to build up innings.
