Position Player of the Week: Gregory Lorenzo – OF
.478/.458/.739 (11/23) with 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB (A)
I was able to catch Lorenzo last week. He was still the same energetic and lively player as always, giving 100% effort on the field. Of course he decided to remember how to hit again once I left. Lorenzo is a toolsy guy with good bat speed and overall athletic speed, but is still very noisy at the plate. He’s going to be inconsistent, but will have spurts like this that remind us why the Orioles have hope in him.
Starting Pitcher of the Week: Kevin Gausman – RHP
7.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K (AA)
Gausman continues to rack up the strikeouts at Bowie. He’s shown improvements each start, whether the line shows it or not. I don’t think this latest start tells us much more than what we already knew about Gausman, especially considering that Harrisburg is currently the worst hitting team in the Eastern League. Either way, pitching deep into the game is a huge factor for him, as he is still learning how to pitch and not throw. It takes more than just a terrific arsenal to get AA hitters out.
Relief Pitcher of the Week: Tom Winegardner – RHP
2 G, 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (A)
The interesting prospect is finally on an active roster, and pitched quite well from what I heard. He mainly sticks in the 89-92 range, but has surprising movement on his fastball. There is still some growth left here from a pitchers perspective, so it should be interesting to see how he develops over a full season in the bullpen.
