Position Player of the Week: Henry Urrutia – OF

.364/.391/.591 (8/22) with 5 2B, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 4 K (AA)
“Hammerin Hank” has been a fun little story down at Bowie. He’s tearing the cover off the ball in the start of his professional career. Sure, he is 26 and there may not be too much growth there besides adding a little more muscle. However, he has a really smooth swing with minimal movement. The bat glides through the zone and he knows how to handle it. I don’t think he has much to learn at the AA level.

Starting Pitcher of the Week: Eduardo Rodriguez – LHPEduardo-Rodriguez

1 GS, 7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K (A+)
The young lefty has kept his velocity up over the first month + of the season. He is a legitimate prospect capable of breaking top 100 lists and turning heads when sitting 91-94 with his fastball. Anything less and he becomes just another guy. For now, the reports are certainly good. That velocity spike is looking to be there to stay. Some say its from a little cleanup of mechanics, while some say he has grown into his frame a little more. I would venture it is a little of both. With Rodriguez, it is important to see if this velocity holds up the entire year. If he is still pumping 91-94 in August, then the Orioles may very well have the next big pitching stud on the way. But he’s not there yet, although it’s certainly been impressive so far.

Relief Pitcher of the Week: Matt Price – RHP

2 G, 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K (A)
Honestly, Price is a little too advanced for Delmarva. He pitched in the SEC and has already displayed the ability to handle hitters of higher levels than this. He works 90-93 with fairly decent command. The main thing about Price is whether he is healthy or not. Older reports from the past two years say that his stuff had regressed as a pitcher. With Delmarva, he has shown life again. I was given a glowing report on Price, saying he looked like the pitcher the Orioles claimed they had gotten a “steal” in during the draft last year. He should be in Frederick or Bowie in no time soon.
