In-general, most Managers do very little for me.
I can say that Dave Trembley falls into that category for me. I am mostly ambivalent.

What I am not ambivalent about, is Organizational consistency. That means something.
For 20 years there has been a revolving door with the O’s Mgr, and I find that unproductive.

I do not think Trembley is a great tactician, but I think that is of minimal importance. Most sabermetric types believe that a Mgr. only directly impacts a maximum of 5-10 games a year. If that is correct, a Mgr’s in-game decisions only matter so much. (maybe more, when you believe you can contend).

What is important to me, is how a Mgr handles the Media, and his ability to maintain/motivate a locker-room.

I find Trembley to be decent with the press. Whether you agree with him or not, he answers the questions as appropriate and is able to articulate his rationale on the moves he made. He never throws his team under the proverbial bus.

For a team that is still not very-good, I do find that the O’s usually play hard for 27 outs. (notice the number of late-inning comebacks).

The base-running errors, and mental mistakes made by the O’s can be appalling, but I honestly put very little of that on Trembley’s shoulders.

The guy was in the Minors for 20 years, and was named Manager of the Year in 3 different leagues. You do not keep a Mgr job in the Minors for those 20 years, unless you are playing a successful-hand in the development of young-players.

I believe there is enough talent on the current roster, and enough talent that you want to move forward with, that you should not collapse as a team down the stretch.

If you were to collapse as a team, I would be open to a Mgr. change. My choice at that point, would be a Mgr. with a track-record of success. Again, not that I believe their tactical moves have a lot to do with team success, but I do think there is something to be said with having someone in place from a culture of winning.
