The Orioles were out of last nights game vs Oakland, 10 pitches into the bottom of the 1st.

Guthrie recorded only 2 outs, before giving up 7 hits, and 6 runs. The beating delivered by the A’s was not limited to the scoreboard, as Guthrie took a wicked smash right back at him.

At least Guthrie is willing to stand-up and be accountable when he does not perform:

“I came in with a lot of momentum over the past few innings but I never got into a rhythm of throwing the ball consistently where I wanted,” Guthrie said. “Effectiveness was an issue. It was a disappointing start with terrible results. I hope I can come back and pitch better.”

Mark Hendrickson did not help his cause, as he gave up 3 er in his 3.1 innings of work. Him being able to stretch is an asset, but only helps if he can actually get someone out.

Brian Roberts ended his recent slump with 2 hits, and Wieters was 1 for 3.

Luke Scott homered for the 13th time to avoid the shut-out.

The Orioles have fallen to 24-31, and have lost 3 in a row, and 5 of 6. The Orioles need to win today.

Jason Berken will take the mound for his 3rd Major League start, and face young Trevor Cahill.

Cahill has lost his last 3 decisions, but has pitched at least 5.2 innings, and allowed 2er or less in his last 3 outings.

It is time for the Oriole bats to wake up, and some of that responsibility falls with the top of the order.

After getting nothing from Guthrie last night, and having to use Hendrickson, Albers, Castillo, and Bass – the bullpen needs innings tonight from Berken.
