To add Adam Eaton to the roster, the O’s had to make a corresponding move… On Opening Day, I thought it would come down to Baez/Bass… but Baez was impressive enough in his 2 outings, that I thought it would be Bass.. even with Bass being out of options.

The O’s elected to send down Albers, and I have to say I am a bit irritated with that.

At best, Bass is a guy that can eat some innings in long-relief, more likely in blow-out situations… he also has nominal stuff.

Albers can basically help you every other game… either as a guy that can stretch for 2-3 innings… but even into the 7th-8th as a set-up option.

Albers was hitting 94-95 last night with great movement… flashing a big curve, and keeping everything low… not surprising since he had a grounder to flyball ratio of 1.18 in 2008.

I see Peter Schmuck described Albers as laboring through his outing last night… to me, he was squeezed with the walk.

I hope Albers’ AAA stay is short… even if that means just releasing Bass, who I believe brings limited value to the table.

Bass was relatively effective in 90 Major League innings with the Twins, and Orioles last year, allowing 95 hits, 31 walks, 45 k’s.

I am willing to concede he could be a bit of a late bloomer, as he did have a solid 2007 season in AAA as well.

Overall though, his career minor league numbers are not impressive.

If the O’s believe in what they are seeing from Baez, than Bass really does not deserve a position on this team.
