Markakis is entering his 4th full year in the Majors, and has shown consistent improvement.

He has produced the following previously:

2006 – .799 OPS, 16 homers, 62 rbi, 25 doubles, .291 avg, .351 on-base, .448 slugging
2007 – .848 OPS, 23 homers, 112 rbi, 43 doubles, .300 avg, .362 on-base, .485 slugging
2008 – .897 OPS, 20 homers, 87 rbi, 48 doubles, .306 avg, .406 on-base, .491 slugging

I project the following for 2009:

.925 OPS, 28 homers, 100 rbi, 45 doubles, .315 avg, .425 on-base, .500 slugging

Baseball Prospectus (PECOTA Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm) projects an OPS of .834

Baseball Think Factory (Zips) projects an OPS of .879

Bill James (Bill James Handbook) projects an OPS of .899

The Hardball Times (CHONE, Sean Smith) projects an OPS of .856

Marcels (Tom Tango, The Book) projects an OPS of .851

Cumlatively, these 5 sources are projecting an OPS of .864 for Markakis.

Which basically means, they are looking at his 2007 and 2008 years, and believing he is somewhere between those two years.

My projections are out of scale with the other projections, because I look at his natural progression as a player… see that he turns 26 this year, and believe he still has room for growth.

It will be interesting to look back at this, at the end of 2009.
