Aaron Wilson of National Football Post and the Carroll County Times is reporting via Twitter that he is hearing the Ravens will attempt to trade Mark Clayton, or will release Clayton to make room for Houshmandzadeh.

Houshmandzadeh is 6’2, 203 lbs and turns 33 at the end of September. The former 7th round draft-pick is coming off a 79 catch, 911 yards (11.5 yards per reception) season in his only year with the Seahawks.

Clayton has been dealing with a concussion suffered in the 3rd pre-season game, but was expected to be able to play in the season opener.

Houshmandzadeh is obviously the more accomplished of the two, and probably more likely to move the chains. I think Clayton probably has better speed at this point in their careers, and was more likely to make some yardage after the catch. I was looking forward to seeing Clayton as the slot receiver in this Ravens offense.

I question how Houshmandzadeh is going to fit in, into this offense. Will he be comfortable being the 3rd option? Boldin, Mason, and Heap are all essentially possession type receivers. Houshmandzadeh adds quality depth, but does adding another possession receiver actually improve the offense?

Marvin Lewis has been quoted in the Cincinnati Enquirer and Pro Football Talk as having positive things to say about his former receiver. He also stated he did not think the Bengals were a great spot for Houshmandzadeh to land.

That certainly seems to leave some things up to interpretation, does it not?
