With MD coming into the game tonight, a 21 point underdog vs Cal; I thought it would be interesting to look back and compare the annual recruiting rankings provided by Rivals.com.

Maryland

2009 – 28th
2008 – 38th
2007 – 35th
2006 – 29th
2005 – 16th

= Average class ranking of 29th

California

2009 – 42nd
2008 – 34th
2007 – 22nd
2006 – 19th
2005 – 9th

= Average class ranking of 25th

Obviously, there have been players that have transferred, that left for the pros, or even reassigned to other-class years (prep-school); but this tells me these are two fairly well-matched teams.

As always, when you have teams of relatively equal skill, it becomes a game of individual match-ups, and schemes.

For Maryland, it is really simple tonight. Can the offensive-line keep Turner up-right, and perform well enough to allow Scott, and Meggett to move the chains, and control the clock with the running-game?

If that can be accomplished, MD should have the opportunity to pull the upset.
