The Orioles hold the 5th pick in the Draft, and are currently projected to take USC SS Grant Green.

All players progress on their own individual time-tables, but if the O’s were able to obtain Green – you can bet he would be on the fast-track.

Obviously Izturis is only a stop-gap, and not a long-term answer. With 3,200+ Major League at-bats, and a career on-base % of .299, Izturis is what he is.

If Baltimore was able to draft and sign Green, Green would likely start the 2010 season at AA Bowie.

With production there… he could be in-line for a late season promotion to the Orioles everyday lineup.

For compairson, in 2008 the first SS drafted out of College was Gordon Beckham to Chicago.
Beckham signed quickly after the June draft, and was able to get 58 at-bats in the Sally League, and time in the Arizona Fall League as well.
This year, he was sent to AA Birmingham where he has an .899 OPS, and 14 XBH’s in 86 at-bats.
