What a ridiculous run Luke Scott has been on lately. Just the latest chapter in Scott’s book of extreme streaks.

While I would prefer to see greater consistency, I guess all that matters is where you end up.

On May 12th, Scott had a .699 OPS, and was batting .200. After last-night, Scott has raised his average to .282 and has his OPS at .915. His slugging has increased from .433 to .565 during this stretch.

I guess this is also yet another reminder of how numbers can still quickly jump at this stage of the year.

Scott, who will turn 32 at the end of June, is not a Free Agent until the 2013 season. He is arbitration eligible during these 2010-12 seasons.

So, should he stay or should he go?

He is not going to end 2010 with an OPS over .900. He is going to end the year with numbers that approximate what he has done the previous 3 years:

2007: 369 at-bats, 18 homers, 28 doubles, .255 average, .855 OPS
2008: 475 at-bats, 23 homers, 29 doubles, .257 average, .807 OPS
2009: 449 at-bats, 25 homers, 26 doubles, .258 average, .828 OPS

No General Manager that would trade for him, would believe he is the player he looks like when he is riding a hot-streak. That said, I do think you if you are going to trade him – you trade him now as opposed to when he begins to go into a decline.
