The University of Maryland beat the Clemson Tigers today, winning 24-21.

With the win, the Terps move to 1-0 in ACC play.

Down 10-0 at the start of the 2nd Quarter, the Terps responded with 17 second-quarter points, to take the half-time lead.

In the 2nd-half, MD was faced with dealing with an arm-injury to RB Da’Rel Scott. Scott left the game, with a soft-cast on his arm, and his availability going-forward is in doubt.

In his post-came conference, Coach Friedgen is stating that Scott apparently broke his wrist and will have surgery. He feels Scott is done for the season.

The Terps would take 24-13 lead, before giving up a 93 yard TD return to the electric CJ Spiller.

The box-score shows a very balanced game, as MD had 278 total-yards, and held Clemson to 274 total-yards.

Both teams had 18 total first-downs, and lost 2 fumbles.

Chris Turner had a good game, going 19 for 26 for 211 yards, and 2 Touchdowns. He was sacked 4 times, with most of those sacks coming after Bruce Campbell was injured and had to leave the game.

Torrey Smith again made his presence felt with 63 yards receiving, and a TD.

With Scott injured, Devin Meggett and Gary Douglas combined for 18 carries, 46 yards, and a TD. They each had a reception, for another 19 yards. Not a great yard-per carry average, but MD will have options available if Scott is indeed out for the season. While the Terps have excellent Freshman RB’s in DJ Adams, and Caleb Porzel, I would have to think Douglas and Morgan Green will get the first-chance to step-up behind Meggett. Porzel previously had a leg-injury of his own, and was said to be Red-shirted. I doubt MD would change their mind on that strategy now.

I have two stars of the game, Kicker Nick Ferrara, and Defense player Demetrius Hartsfield. The Terps were without their All-American punter Travis Baltz today, and Ferrara stepped-up. He had 8 punts, for a 44 yard-per kick average, and hit a 43 yard FG.

Hartsfield repeatedly had his name called when a defensive play was needed, including making plays at the end, and 10 tackles overall.

The Terps now head to Wake Forest, in another-game within the ACC Atlantic division.
