The University of Maryland beat #18 Florida State 77-68, to move to 10-4 overall, and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Considering the opponent, it was the best performance of the season for the Terrapins.

The Good:

1) Florida State came into the game leading the country in Field Goal % allowed, but the Terrapin offense shot 47% from the field.

2) The Seminoles have a lot of size, but Maryland was even with them on the boards.

3) Maryland limited the amount of 3 pointers they attempted (16), but took advantage of their opportunities, knocking down 10.

4) Jordan Williams picked-up a couple of early fouls which placed him on the bench, but he still contributed with 7 boards, and a block. Due to that foul-trouble of Williams, Padgett got a few extra minutes off the bench, and also helped. In just 10 minutes of action, Padgett had 4 points (including a beautiful move in the post), and 4 boards. Gregory rounded out the big-man trio with 4 points, and 4 boards of his own.

5) 22 points, 5 assists, 3 boards, and 3 three-pointers for Vasquez tonight. Just played with a good pace, and provided the scoring the Terps needed in the 2nd-half.

6) Hayes was 5 of 6 from 3 point-land, and I think set-up that shooting from the outside with his early drive to the hoop.

7) Milbourne had 13 points, 7 boards, 2 blocks, and hit a 3. The Senior is having a very-strong final season in College Park.

8) Tucker came off the bench and provided 8 valuable points.

The Bad:

1) Maryland had 17 trips to the line, and made just 9. If Florida State makes a couple of more shots, those 8 misses at the charity-stripe would have had more importance.

2) Mosley had 6 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists. He does everything you could ask of him, but I still want to see him become a bit more selfish. If Mosley is on the court for 24 minutes, he should not receive just 4 shots. You have to actively look for the guy that came into the game today shooting 61% from the field.

The Ugly:

None. The Terps played the game at the pace they wanted to play it, and looked confident and poised with their 9 man rotation. This was a game that Maryland needed, and they efficiently took care of business.

Up-Next:

Gary Williams is not excited about Maryland being the only-team in the ACC to have another league game two-nights after their opener; but that is the situation facing the Terps.

Maryland will not have a lot of time to prepare for their game at Wake Forest Tuesday Night, so they will have to concentrate on the things they can control. Meaning, they will have to make sure their effort, and intensity is there from the beginning.

Wake Forest lost by 1 yesterday at Miami to fall to 1-1 in the ACC, and 11-3 overall. The Demon Deacons are probably a bit better than I anticipated them to be after losing Jeff Teague, and James Johnson to the NBA.

They are led by Sophomore Forward Al-Farouq Aminu, who is averaging 16.8 points per game, with 11.6 boards, and 1.6 blocks. Their next 3 leading scorers are all guards, which bodes well for the Terps.

You want to hold-serve at-home, and grab road wins where you can. The road games this week at Wake, and Boston College on Saturday are winnable games. At a minimum, you want a split. It would be great to come-home from Wake with a win in the pocket, and not ‘need’ to win at Boston College.
