Memphis’ Commercial Appeal Newspaper has an article on Vasquez’s comments..

Vasquez is correct in his assertion. Memphis is a team of great athletes that is too much for Conference USA, and if they played in the ACC, they would suffer their share of losses.

This year, the ACC was the top-ranked RPI conference, and Conference USA was ranked 10th.

The ACC sent 7 teams to the NCAA Tournament, and had 9 teams with an RPI of 65th or less…. Conference USA had 3 teams with an RPI of 65th or less, and sent only Memphis to the Tournament.

Calipari caught the ears of MD fans, with his comments on the Dan Patrick show today when he said, “If MD plays out of their minds for 40 minutes and they come out flat, MD is advancing.”

Some Terp fans are bothered by the idea that Calipari feels MD would have to play out of their mind to win.

I think it was a rather poor sentence from Calipari, but I think his overall point is correct.

The truth with both of these quotes is that neither one matters. If the players need these quotes to fire theirselves up to win, and advance to the Sweet 16 – there are much larger issues to discuss.
