WNST is a radio station and I use that term very loosely. Why don't they go ahead and publish their arbitron ratings? Last time I looked their radio numbers were so pathetic the local college radio stations numbers wer better. Adding facebook fans and twitter fans and posting videos on youtube so people in alska click and may visit your website is pretty meaningless. Thinking of buying wnstsucks.com and hosting a forum so people can vent about these jokers.

The first commenter is dead-on. Alexa is laughable as a credible source for web traffic data. If Nestor and the rest of the WNST brain trust wanted to prove their might in terms of traffic, they'd publish the stats they get either directly from their server logs or from an independent source like Google Analytics. You can mark my words right now that Nestor would never, ever consider something like that. Why? Because his traffic is not what he says it is, period.

Go ahead and ask him some time. Say "hey, can I see a screen shot of your Google Analytics traffic data?" Watch him squirm.

For more on the problems with Alexa rankings, check this link from a credible source:

http://slashdot.org/articles/07/07/23/152243.shtml

It seems to me that Nestor's feud with the Oriles is just self-serving at this point. It allows him to bash the team which has appeal to those in his audience who refuse to acknowledge anything good happening with the Orioles. However, when the Orioles turn the corner soon and are a winning team again, look for the feud to end.

Chris,

Crybabies will always find something to whine about. They have to place blame anywhere but upon themselves.

As for WNST's website, it sucks. There's nothing insightful, the layout is pathetic and they manipulate Alexa for ratings to justify their ad rates to their dwindling number of sponsors.

Alexa Rank is a ranking system which bases its ranking schema on the level of traffic each website receives from the number of people who visit a website with the Alexa toolbar installed. I'm sure everyone Aparicio's knows has been asked to install that tool bar and make WNST their home page.

It can also be manipulated in many other ways by placing the word Alexa frequently in content. There are tons of other way to manipulate Alexa and I'm sure Aparicio does exactly that.

If you really want to test the effectiveness of their site, Google the Orioles, or Orioles news or the Ravens and Ravens news or blogs. My guess is you won't find them in a Google search and really isn't that the measuring stick?

Basing popularity of a website on Alexa instead of Google is like preferring Drew Forrester's eye for talent over Ozzie Newsome's.

Which do you really want as your standard of measure?
