Spalding continued its multi-pronged assault on MIAA foes, throttling Gilman, 49-7. The Cavaliers scored all 49 of their points in the first half, to win their 12th straight game over a league opponent, while boasting a +30.8 point differential average during the run.
Since the 2021 opener, the Cavaliers have won 16 of 17 games versus league opponents, with a semifinal loss to McDonogh in ‘21 their only blemish, and winning all 16 of their victories by double-digits.
Friday, the Cavaliers produced 467 yards of offense, with junior quarterback Malik Washington completing 15 of 18 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half, and senior Kaden Harris rushing for 151 yards and two scores on 18 attempts. Washington, who also ran for a score, reached 50 career touchdowns passes on his third aerial strike.
Washington could very well surpass former Mt St Joe’s Billy Atkins on the MIAA major passing lists next season, with another 15-17 games remaining in his high school career. In two-and-a-half seasons with the Cavaliers, Washington has completed 331 of 556 passes for a 61.3% completion percentage, and 4,682 yards and 50 touchdowns, against 16 interceptions, in 27 games. Washington is 18-2 as a starter.
McDonogh (4-1) moved to 2-1 in league play with a 35-0 shutout victory over Pallotti, who slid to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league play. The Eagles host Mt St Joseph’s (4-3) on Friday, a week after the Gaels pulled out a 17-10 win over Franklin in an out-of-league tilt. The Gaels are 1-1 in league play, tied in the loss column with both McDonogh and Loyola, who are both 2-1 in league play.
Calvert Hall, who has lost the only league game they’ve played thus far, to Spalding, was idle last week. Gilman, who topped Pallotti, 28-13, in week four, is 1-2 in league play, while Pallotti is 0-3. Spalding will be idle this week, while Calvert Hall hosts Gilman, and Loyola hosts Pallotti.
MIAA B
Concordia Prep pounded John Carroll, 34-9, rushing for 384 yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries versus the Patriots. The Saints rose to 5-1 overall, and 3-0 in league play, while John Carroll slid to 3-3 overall, and 1-1 in league play. Saints senior Keshawn Mister rushed for 123 yards and two scores on only seven carries. Senior Kevin Montague added 14 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown, and senior Geulius Cornish rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts.
Concordia Prep can all but wrap up the regular season crown with a win over defending champion St Mary’s (3-2) on Saturday.
St Mary’s shut out Mount Carmel, 23-0, to give the Saints their third victory in four games. Archbishop Curley (3-3) pulled out a 17-14 win over St Paul’s (3-3), pushing the Friars to 2-1 in league play, and the Crusaders sliding to 1-2. Friars senior Caron Madison rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Friars host Mt Carmel (2-4) on Saturday. St Paul’s travels to Severn (4-2) on Friday to face the Admirals, the top team in the four team MIAA C division.

From a large ‘sports family’, Willie’s brother Mike led Reservoir High to the 3A basketball state title game in 2018, while his nephew Anthony serves as the Indianapolis Colts College Scouting Coordinator.
