Had a couple of quick hits on the tenders provided by the Ravens to their Restricted Free Agents.
1) I have stated numerous times that I want to see Gaither extended long-term with the Ravens, that said, I think the Ravens absolutely handled him right with the first-round tender they placed on him.
That is a big price-tag for any team to pay (not including his compensation), and should allow Gaither to definitively return to Baltimore for the 2010 season. If someone did step-up and unexpectedly meet that price, the Ravens have the obvious LT replacement in place with Oher, and could address other needs with the additional 1st-round pick.
Hopefully the Ravens wrap him up for several years, and let him and Oher sort-out who mans the Left and Right-Tackles on the field.
2) The 1st-round tender to McClain was not all that surprising, but it was interesting seeing McClain quoted in The Sun today about his interest in gaining additional carries this coming season. Can’t see anyone offering their 1st-rounder to have McClain block, but I guess there is a very limited chance someone could pursue him as a RB.
3) The 1st-round tender to Washington, is evidence to me that the team A) Feels good about Washington’s rehab, and B) Has some doubts about the ability of Webb to be ready to go to start next-year. Nobody is going to come hard after Washington with that price-tag, and him coming off the injury.
4) The Sun stated today that it was believe the Ravens would also offer a 1st-round tender on Clayton, and had offered a low-round tender on Williams. I guess I am a bit surprised that both could potentially return, especially after the signing of Stallworth.
5) No surprises about the tenders offered to Koch, Landry.
6) I like that a tender was offered to Chester, but am still awaiting to see what the Ravens have decided with Yanda.
