Jeff Errman, and InsideMDSports.com is reporting that Haukur Palsson has committed to the University of Maryland.

The 6’6, 215 lb guard/small-forward from Iceland has spent this year with Monteverde Academy in Florida.

Rivals.com has Palsson ranked as a 3-star prospect.

In December, ESPN Insider.com, had this to say about Palsson:

“Haukur is a strong bodied combo forward. He is originally from Iceland. He is best as a power forward that can step out and stretch a defense from the perimeter. He is a good shooter with range to 19 feet. He is a good rebounder that uses his body…”

They stated he was also looking at Harvard, University of Central Florida, and the University of South Florida.

There is also this ESPN article on Palsson from January:

While Palsson, and Howard are verbals until they can officially sign in the Spring, this brings the incoming Freshman class to 5.

Mychal Parker: 6’5, 190 lbs SF/SG
Terrell Stoglin: 5’11, 180 lbs PG
Pe’Shon Howard: 6’3, 200 lbs PG/SG
Ashton Pankey: 6’9, 220 lbs PF
Haukur Palsson: 6’6, 215 lbs SG/SF

Right-now we are looking at:

2010-11 Terps:

1) Bowie (Senior), Stoglin (Frosh)
2) Tucker (Senior), Howard (Frosh)
3) Mosley (Junior), Parker (Frosh), Palsson (Frosh)
4) Gregory (Senior), Pankey (Frosh)
5) Williams (Soph), Padgett (Soph), Goins (Junior)

College teams are allowed to have 13 players under-scholarship, so the Terps could still add one more player to this class if they wanted. Frankly, with the likely-hood that Goins officially leaves the program after the year-ends; the Terps could add two players.

If there is a difficult decision for the Terps, it is do they want to have 6 players in one class? Perhaps Palsson winds-up Redshirting?

If Goins is going to leave (and all signs point to that), and you combine that with Pankey coming off of his leg-injury; it seems to me as if the Terps will push hard to close the class with at-least one more front-court player.
