The bottom-line about 2010 is that wins and losses matter, so only minimal solace can be taken in moral victories. During this year, the O’s have to defend their home-field. What I want to see by the end of the year, is a team that grows capable of winning close games on the road against the division.
That established, there were some positives last night, starting with Guthrie.
By Guthrie’s own admission, and further confirmed by Palmer; Guthrie had a better slider last-night than at any-time in 2009. I give him particular credit for the strikeout of Shoppach to end the 4th (just a perfectly placed low inside fastball), and for finishing with 6 k’s overall.
If Guthrie gives facsimiles of that start more often than not, he will remain in the rotation for sometime (and additionally increase his trade value).
Atkins has had doubles in back-to-back games off of Soriano. Soriano throws hard, and is extremely tough on righties – so that is a positive for Atkins.
Was good to see Reimold playing. He ran hard down the line, to avoid being doubled up. He had a nice at-bat taking a pitch to right. The drawback of him playing was that it was the result of Pie having a sore shoulder, and it took Pie out of LF. While I think Reimold has the ability to be a solid LF, I could not help but think that Pie would have made the play on Longoria’s double.

The O’s most talented starter, obviously starts today. Would be great for the team to get 1 game before heading home.
