During the past-year I had the opportunity to interview the Orioles Director of Amateur Scouting Joe Jordan, and then Director of Player Development Dave Stockstill. In both interviews the respective Directors gave their thoughts on a bunch of players in the system.

Mr. Joe Jordan:
Randy Henry – Power arm and breaking ball. Very good athlete – needs to come to camp healthy. Big potential here but needs innings.
Henry (Delmarva): 4.2 innings, 1.93 era, 4 hits, 1 er, 0 bb’s, 9 k’s.
Ashur Tolliver – Needed to pitch all summer but negotiations ate up most of it. A very quality value in the 5th round who will surprise a lot of people on how good he is.
Tolliver – Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Justin Dalles – Solid catch and throw guy with offensive potential. Needs to get out of his own way some and realize he possesses all the physical talent to play a long time.
Dalles (Delmarva): .375 avg, 2 homers, 1 double, 3 bb’s, 4 k’s, 1.111 OPS
Aaron Wirsch – Very excited with this kid – 6’05” LHP with a feel to pitch and quality to repertoire. Very advanced with approach to pitching – Will be defined by where his stuff settles in.
Wirsch – Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Ryan Berry – If healthy I expect very big things here – can really pitch!
Berry (Delmarva): 0-1, 3.86 era, 9.1 innings, 13 hits, 1 bb, 6 k’s.
Michael Ohlman – Paid him like I liked him a lot. Seriously, a talented, physical athlete. Made a lot of progress in Instructional League – likes to play (big upside).
Ohlman (Delmarva): 0 for 4, 1 bb, 2 k’s
Jarret Martin – In Florida already doing throwing program – feels 100% healthy. 6’03 LHP with +arm and CB – needs to stay healthy and log some innings.
Matin: Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Cameron Coffey – See first line on Ohlman. I temper my excitement here – all the physical talent to be anything (reminds me of Arrieta, Britton, Bergesen and those type of guys with his makeup, determination and work ethic).
Coffey: Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Brenden Webb – Another athletic, toolsy player we added to the system. A great job by our area scout, Mark Ralston. This guys talent should have put him in the top 4-5 rounds of the draft. Signed late – let’s get him out playing and see what we have.”

Mr. Dave Stockstill:
Pedro Florimon – Seems to have turned a corner and gotten himself on track to be able to play shortstop and swing the bat with some authority. He runs well, has a strong arm, and very good hands. He is a switch hitter, who is making progress with plate discipline and more consistent contact.
Florimon (Bowie): .148 average, .364 OPS, 1 bb, 6 k’s.
Garabez Rosa – A shortstop with good hands, good range, and a very good arm. He is working to recognize pitches better and as he does this, he will begin to show good power in games. He is capable of power to all fields and has the size to hit the ball with authority.
Rosa (Delmarva): .323 average, .860 OPS, 6 doubles, 1 bb, 4 k’s.
Caleb Joseph – Has made outstanding progress as a catcher. He has been the everyday catcher at Frederick and has learned to call a game and learned to prepare himself daily to help the pitchers in only his first season as a full time catcher. He has really been remarkable in his play.
Joseph (Bowie): .294 average, .828 OPS, 2 doubles, 4 rbi, 5 bb’s, 1 k
Ronnie Welty – Has had a very good year in Delmarva. He has played well in right field and has swung the bat consistently all year.
Welty (Frederick): .318 average, 1.011 OPS, 2 homers, 1 double, 6 rbi, 2 bb’s, 8 k’s.
Paco and Danny Figueroa – Have overcome injuries to have very good years in Bowie. They have both swung the bat very well, they play hard every pitch and both are very good baserunners.
P. Figueroa (Bowie): .217 average, .467 OPS, 1 bb, 6 k’s.
D. Figueroa (Bowie): .179 average, .557 OPS, 6 bb’s, 7 k’s.
Jon Tucker – Is a very valuable player at Bowie, he can play 6 positions and is a very good situational hitter and can steal bases.
Tucker (Norfolk): 0 for 9, 4 bb’s, 2 k’s.
Brandon Waring – Has had an outstanding year. He has learned to play first base, also played well at 3rd, developed a shorter, more compact swing with very good power and made progress in judging pitches.
Waring (Bowie): .258 avg, .711 OPS, 1 homer, 1 double, 3 bb’s, 8 k’s.
Tyler Henson – After being moved to the outfield, he has shown new life with a very good second half offensively and has played very well in left field.
Henson (Bowie): .241 avg, .726 OPS, 1 homer, 2 doubles, 3 bb’s, 5 k’s.
Luis Bernardo – Has played very well defensively as a catcher at Delmarva, virtually shutting down the opposing teams running game.
Bernardo (Frederick): 1 for 10, 1 bb, 3 k’s.
Dashenko Ricardo – Has also done the same with Bluefield with his strong arm and leadership style behind the plate.
Ricardo: Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Robbie Widlansky – Has worked very hard in adjusting his swing and it has paid off very well as he has had an outstanding season with the bat at Frederick while also learning to play 1st base.
Widlansky (Bowie): .409 avg, .958 OPS, 2 doubles, 4 rbi, 2 bb, 2 k’s.
Xavier Avery, LJ Hoes, Kyle Hudson, Levi Carolus, and Mike Flacco also deserve praise for how well they have done this season.
Avery (Frederick): .345 avg, .886 OPS, 2 doubles, 6 bb’s, 5 k’s.
Hoes (Frederick): .296 avg, .740 OPS, 5 rbi, 5 bb’s, 2 k’s.
Hudson (Frederick): .241 avg, .665 OPS, 6 bb’s, 8 k’s.
Carolus (Delmarva): .265 avg, .716 OPS, 3 bb’s, 9 k’s.
Flacco: Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Luis Lebron – Has come along very well since missing most of last season. He throws mid 90’s with a very good slider and change.
Lebron: Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Ryan Ouellette – Has made very good progress with a heavy sinker that buries hitters.
Ouellette (Bowie): 1-0, 3.00 era, 3 innings, 2 hits, 5 bb’s, 1 k.
Ryohei Tanaka – Has done a very good job with his command, sinker, slider, and change. He has pitched to contact very well and followed the Orioles philosophy of pitching to contact and getting more outs with fewer pitches.
Tanaka (Bowie): 1-0, 1.50 era, 12 innings, 10 hits, 1 bb, 6 k’s.
Zach Britton – Has had an excellent season. He has added velocity, has a sharp slider, an improving change and has added stamina. He has come a very long ways from the youngster he was a couple of years ago.
Britton (Bowie): 1-0, 2.61 era, 10.1 innings, 8 hits, 2 bb’s, 9 k’s.
Eddie Gamboa – Has pitched incredibly well and has pitched at 3 levels. He is a competitor and goes right after hitters.
Gamboa (Bowie): 1-1, 3.60 era, 1 save, 5 ip, 4 hits, 2 bb’s, 4 k’s.
Josh Perrault – Has made great progress as with his 90-92 mph sinker, slider and very good command. He has been a key team pitcher the entire season.
Perrault: Not on a full-season team, or injured.
Brandon Cooney – Has stayed healthy and has made good progress in developing his mid 90’s fastball with a lot of life. His slider is improving and he has done a very good job.
Cooney (Frederick): 1-0, 2.70 era, 3.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 bb’s, 5 k’s.
