The Baltimore Orioles accomplished my goal of winning 2 of their 4 games in Minnesota, but the series ended on a sour note with the 6-0 loss yesterday.
Having won the first two games of the series, including beating Liriano, it was disappointing seeing Baltimore drop the last two games with Millwood, and Matusz on the mound.
Everyone is entitled to bad-outings (and certainly you understand a pitcher in his full-season in the bigs is entitled to his share) but it was tough watching Matusz knocked around for 9 hits in his 3.2 innings of work.
Even more annoying was the total lack of offense against Nick Blackburn. Blackburn is a serviceable back of the rotation starter, but he should not shut you down. In 2008 Blackburn allowed 224 hits in 193.1 innings. In 2009 Blackburn allowed 240 hits in 205.2 innings. In 2010 Blackburn came into the game having allowed 44 hits in 32.2 innings.
Yesterday he goes 7 innings, and allows just 4 hits. That is a just a poor effort, and poor approach from the O’s hitters.
