Seth Hoffman of InsideMdSports.com has an extremely detailed report on the recruits Gary Williams and his staff are after for the 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes.

You can find Hoffman’s report at:

Outside of PG Sterling Gibbs, who has already provided his verbal to MD for ’11, Hoffman mentions another 20 names in the class to keep in-mind.

While I appreciate the information provided about 2012, I think you have to see who joins Gibbs in the Class of ’11 first. Also, it will be interesting to see what other names emerge during the remainder of Summer, and even into early Fall.

Right now, the Terps are looking at a 2011-12 roster of:

1) Howard (Soph), Stoglin (Soph), Gibbs (Frosh)
2) Parker (Soph)
3) Mosley (Senior), Palsson (Soph)
4) Padgett (Junior), Pankey (Soph)
5) Williams (Junior), Weijs (Senior), Goins (Senior)

I had anticipated hearing officially by now that Goins was not going to be part of the roster this coming-season. Until that is formally announced, you have to count him.

With him, there is only space for two available signings. Howard and Stoglin will get plenty of minutes at the 2G that year, but a bigger 2G that could also get time at the 3 seems like a priority. You could also see the need for another low-post option to join the trio of Williams, Padgett, and Pankey. However, unless the Maryland coaches can convince Mikael Hopkins to stay-home, it seems like the SF’s the Terps are involved with for ’11 are of a higher quality than the bigs.

I’d love to see the Terps win the battles for the in-state talents of Hopkins (DeMatha), and Nick Faust (City). That would make for a pretty-loaded Maryland team.

As Hoffman writes, and as chronicled elsewhere (Matt Bracken’s Recruiting Report) Faust and Jabari Brown have been high priorities for the Terps. Getting one of those two to commit would represent a huge signing. You would hope the addition of Bino Ranson to the Maryland Coaching staff would help with getting Faust into a Terrapin uniform.
