The old saying is that momentum in baseball is the next nights starter. After taking two of three from the Chicago White Sox this weekend, the Baltimore Orioles have the chance to win their second consecutive series tonight with Brian Matusz getting the start.
To me it is somewhat important to see Matusz perform tonight. Not only do you want the O’s to be in position to win the series, you want to Matusz build off of his last outing.
After getting knocked around during July, Matusz responded well during his initial August start going 6 innings, and allowing just 1 er last Wednesday. What I was really pleased to see in that start was that Matusz had zero walks. It was good to see because for a guy with his overall control, he had been walking too many batters.
Matusz is right at 120 innings for the year, and I figure he is good for about another 70 innings before he is shut-down. How he finishes the year is vitally important. Let us see if he can build off of Wednesday, and start to find some positive consistency.
