The deadline for posting for Japanese SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka has come and past, and the Orioles have elected not to provide a bid.
You have to read this as indication that the Orioles International Scouting Department did not agree with Nishioka’s former Manager Bobby Valentine, and did not believe Nishioka could play a Major League SS.
If that was the decision made, I can respect the decision. The winning posting fee and contract for Nishioka will be substantial. If the O’s were not confident in his ability to play SS; that was an investment they could not make.
What I will say though is failure to upgrade the position would be unacceptable. Nishioka being off the board, just makes it that much more imperative that the O’s address the position with one of the other oft-talked about options.
