The Terps are 17-10, 6-7 in the ACC
To reach the NCAA Tournament, MD will have to at least win two of their remaining three regular season games.
MD’s remaining games are:
@NCST (15-10, 5-7) Sunday Night. The Wolfpack are at Wake Forest tonight, before hosting MD.
Home vs #13 Wake Forest (20-5, 7-5) Tuesday. The Demon Deacons host NCST tonight, and are at UVA Saturday, before facing MD.
@UVA (9-14, 3-9) Saturday March 7th. The Cavs have Miami at home tonight, Wake at home Saturday.. And are at Clemson Tuesday 3/3, before the final at home vs the Terps.
What does all of that mean?
NCST has won 3 of 4 in ACC play, and are feeling better about their team since they went with a larger starting line-up. If they were to pull the upset in Wake tonight, the Wolfpack, could start to dream about running the table and gaining entry to the NCAAT.
You want them to lose big tonight in Wake Forest, and have their confidence crushed. NCST and Wake facing each other tonight, gives Gary a great opportunity to study and prepare for those games.
Sunday is a huge game for MD. If the Terps win, they will have a great opportunity to at-least split their last two-games. If they lose, the pressure of having to win both remaining games will be large.
The home-game vs Wake, provides another chance to obtain another marquee win. This is probably the hardest match-up in conference for MD, with Wake Forest having six players at 6’9 or taller, combined with an athletic back-court.
After Wake’s Saturday game vs UVA, they will also have the benefit of getting to watch MD play Sunday night.
This game will require a huge-effort from the Comcast faithful to win.
If you have split the NCST, and Wake Forest games, that will have MD at 18-11, 7-8 heading to Virginia.
While it will be Senior night, UVA only has two Seniors, and neither plays a ton of mts. The Cavs only real motivation, would be playing with pride and wanting to knock-out MD’s NCAAT chances.
You want UVA to be a mentally defeated team when the Terps come to Charlottesville. With games against Miami, Wake, and at Clemson… UVA could easily be 3-12, and packed-in for the year.
Regardless, the Terps beat them in College Park, and are the more talented team. If MD is to deserve to dance, they have to (and should) win that game.
