The Orioles avoided the rare Spring Training no-hitter, with a Wieters single in the 9th.
Of bigger importance was the outings of Baez, Penn, and Albers today.
Baez went 3.2 innings, with 1 hit allowed, 2 k’s, and 0 er…
While I do not not want him anywhere near the Opening Day team, it is an encouraging outing, that could help with moving him elsewhere.
I continue to hope the O’s will showcase him as often as possible, and move him or cut him prior to the start of the season.
Penn went 2.2 innings, allowing 2 hits (1 hr), 2 er, and 1 walk… nothing great, but nothing terrible.
The things to remember about Penn are his age (25 in October), that he has no options remaining, and his AA, and AAA performance history at ages 20, and 21.
Albers finished the game for the O’s, going 1 inning, allowing a hit, no walks, no k’s, and no runs.
Biggest note of the day is that Freel had his 3rd error of ST at SS. The O’s obviously are hoping he could grab the back-up SS position, but is becoming apparent that they will have to be looking towards Gomez, Murphy or possibly Moore. (Not in place of Freel on the roster, but as a true-back up SS)
