The Terps had a horrible shooting game against GaTech today.
23 of 73 from the floor, 5 for 26 from 3, and even just 17 for 23 at the line.
Despite that, they found a way to win… they won, because they forced a ton of turnovers, and played strong defense.
Couple of basic thoughts:
– Yellow Jackets have two strong post players in Aminu, and Lawal, and MD was able to hold them to 14 points each…
– Mosely does a lot of things well, and is improving every game… strong defensive rebounder, gets assists, steals…. today he had 3 steals, 4 boards, and 10pts.
– Hayes was huge in the 2nd half…. finished with 17pts, and his shooting was just clutch…
– Jin-Soo Kim got some good run today, and while he didnt score… he did contribute on defense.
– Dupree was active today in his limited mts, but again missed a couple of short-range gimmies.
– Bowie has been struggling, and missed another three 3pt shots today.. but seemed to come alive a bit in the 2nd half… hit 5 of 6 from the line… 3 steals, 6 boards..
– Milbourne needs to have more than 6 shots… did have 9 boards, 2 steals and a block…
– Got nothing of note from Tucker, and Gregory today… they need to be regular parts of the rotation… two of the better athletes on the team, they can make a positive difference, even without scoring.
– MD forced 28 turnovers, while only turning it over 13 times… MD lost on the boards 33-45, but considering all the missed shots, that is a liveable number. MD had 12 steals.
All in all, despite the horrible shooting, you have to be encouraged by the effort provided today… could have folded a number of times, but they found a way to work their way back into the game.
Looking ahead, MD plays at 11-3, 0-1 Miami on Wednesday night.
Hurricanes play later today vs Boston College.
