Interesting story of how after the 108-91 defeat to UNC at Carolina, Gary Williams wrote down on a piece of paper that he thought MD would win the rematch in College Park.

He then challenged his team to sign the paper if they also believed.

If you watched that game in Chapel Hill, you saw that the Tar Heels and MD made an equal amount of field-goals, but that UNC hit 16 three’s.

You knew that Roy Williams style of continuing to push the ball, feeds into what MD does best, and allows the MD guards and wings to score in transition.

So there was plenty of reason to believe that at home, with the crowd that MD could have an excellent chance to win…. still, I am shocked that Gary was willing to put that prediction in ink several weeks ahead of time.

I think you can make an excellent arguement that motivational ploy was what allowed MD to dig in down the stretch, and win the games they needed to.

Gary showed he believed in his players, and in-turn his players rallied around him.
