Today’s game with Tennessee was a prime example of finding a way to survive and advance.
In the first two rounds of the playoffs, Baltimore’s opponents – Miami and the Titans – were number one, and number two in the NFL this year in turnover-margin.
The Ravens forced the Dolphins into five turnovers, and Tennessee into three, while only having one turnover of their own in the two games.
That is why Baltimore will be playing next week for the right to earn a trip to Tampa and Super Bowl XLIII, and why those organizations will not.
Couple of thoughts on the game itself:
– Mason continues to amaze… it is clear every time he runs, that he can not raise his one arm.
– Harbaugh’s challenge in the 2nd-half was huge, as it likely was the difference between Bironas making and missing that FG.
– I thought the Ravens were a bit too conservative on offense, and went away from some of the things that had allowed them to gain entry to the playoffs in the first-place.
– Ray Rice was active last week, and was on the field for a couple of plays today… but the Ravens made no attempt to get him the ball…. if he is active, I think he should be used.
– McGahee, and McClain combined for 24 carries and 42 yards…
– I can not imagine that the Titans game plan had Collins getting 42 pass attempts, still, I have a new respect for his abilities… those were a strong 281 yards.
– Scott might have had his best game all year, with 9 crushing tackles.
– The health of Suggs, and Rolle is a huge question going into next week.
– The injury to Chris Johnson can not be overstated… he was having a ton of success cutting-back… but the numerous camera shots of him on the sidelines was just excessive.
– You knew it would be another chippy game, and composure would be a key. Titans had 12 penalties for 89 yards.
– That was a money catch by Heap…
This was the type of game that unites a city, and reminds people of why they are fans of sports in the first-place.
Here is to at least one more week of action, and hopefully one more opportunity against Pittsburgh.
Perhaps of greater importance, here is to enjoying tonight and the pure elation of moving-on.
