10. Stone Brewing Richmond Richmond, VA
Stone is one of the best breweries in the country, and now one of the pioneers of the legendary San Diego beer scene is on the East Coast! Stone’s Richmond location sits alongside a river and has a very impressive space, with plans for a restaurant and beer garden in the future (their restaurant and garden in their original Escondido location is amazing). Like some of the other more mainstream breweries on this list, Stone offers their iconic, mostly hoppy beers such as West Coast IPA, Ruination, and Enjoy By, but what I most love is that they offer a great deal of special releases and pilot offerings. The taproom also features a good selection of board games as well as a gift shop. This is a great place to check out, especially if like McLovin, you enjoy the hops.
9. Right Proper Brewing Company Washington DC
Right Proper resides in the hip DC neighborhood of Shaw and features one of the best restaurants on this list. Besides the strong food menu, Right Proper offers a dozen beers on tap, which are constantly rotating with the exception of a few core selections. Their eclectic tap list typically features saisons, sours, and perhaps a porter, or a fruit beer, or wild ale, with a hoppy selection or two as well. The food and ambience set this place apart, though as the former is top notch Southern leaning American food, and the latter is strong due to some funky artwork, relaxed atmosphere, and a good variety of seating options. So during your next trip to DC, come for the beer and stay for the food and environment (the other way works too!).
8. The Veil Brewing Co. Richmond, VA
The Veil has only been around for two years, but has already become not just one of the most exciting breweries in the region, but also one of the very best. The Veil has some of the best hop forward beers in the region, and a wide and continually changing selection of them, but they also excel with sours, barrel aged beers, and stouts. Speaking of stouts, the Hornswoggler with Oreos is to die for, but I am unsure what the future is for that special release as it is listed as out of production on Untapped. However, as long as you like the styles of beer they specialize, you will surely fall in love with their beer on a visit. As an added bonus, there are a few other cool breweries in walking distance so a great day can be had walking from brewery to brewery. The Veil would be even higher if they didn’t rely on food trucks for food and if they had more entertainment options at the tasting room, which is a cool space nonetheless. On beer alone, this is a top 3 contender.
7. RAR Brewing Cambridge, MD
This nearly 5 year old brewery has taken the local beer community by storm with its wide array of IPAs, including juicy, fruity, dank, New England style, and the more traditional hop bombs. Oh, and they also have tasty ice cream style IPAs such as the Neapolitan Complex and Ice Cream Seas. RAR has a strong collection of stouts too including very highly rated Barrel Aged 1st Meal (plus the barrel aged version), 10 Layers, and Mint 10 Layers to name a few. They do have some more approachable beers for those that are into that sort of thing, such as blondes, hefeweizens, and pale ales. My one wish is for them to offer more beer on tap. Beyond the beer, RAR is a great place to hang out as it’s on a main drag in downtown Cambridge, has garage door windows opening out to the street, shuffle board, cool artwork, and big screens to watch games on. They have leveled up with a good pub style food menu as well. RAR may be a little out of the way for many, but it makes for a great stop on the way to or from the beach for those of us in the Baltimore-Washington metro. 
Bonus: Dewey Beer Co Dewey Beach, DE
This upstart has shown some promise with its beer and offers a wide and diverse selection on tap, but the biggest reason I am including them on this list is the location. Dewey Beach is a very fun beach town and this brewery is in a great location to sit back with some beer and people watch after a day at the beach. They also offer good food, an intimate view of the brewery itself, and you can catch a game on the big screens.
6. Dogfish Head Brewing and Eats Rehoboth Beach, DE
We close out this grouping with one of the OG’s of the Mid-Atlantic: Dogfish Head. First of all, it’s hard to beat the location here as the brewpub is located in walking distance to the beach on Rehoboth Avenue with a ton of great eating, entertainment, and shopping options nearby. This not just an instance of location, location, location, though as there are around two dozen beers on tap to be enjoyed, ranging from the classics such as the 60, 75, 90, and 120 Minute IPAs, Namaste, Midas Touch, Indian Brown, and Palo Santo Marron to brewpub exclusives that are often unusual and compelling, and sometimes go onto make it to the shelves and taps of your local establishments. The brewpub also scores high marks for being one of the best places to get food on this list. Lastly, the space in this recently renovated brewpub is large, but hip and welcoming at the same time, and if you come on a Friday or Saturday night, you’ll likely be treated to live music. Oh, and the actual brewery is not far away either and offers really good tours.
