Phil Savage was recently fired from his position as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Cleveland Browns.
He had a rather tumultuous time with the Browns, that greatly diminished his reputation around the league.
That said, the reason he was able to obtain the GM position with Cleveland, was due to his great success as the Ravens Director of Player Personnel.
During his time with the Browns, Eric DeCosta as the Director of College Scouting, and George Kokinis as the Director of Pro Personnel have risen in the Ravens organization and performed admirably.
It is only a matter of time, until other organizations are offering General Manager positions to them.
Why not bring Savage back to the fold now? If Newsome decides to step-down in the near future, you have a guy with existing GM experience ready to go.
If DeCosta or Kokinis leave, you have a guy that will help ensure a brain-power void does not develop.
