The 2019 college football regular season has wrapped up. Each week during the season our panel of experts will rank the Top 12 teams in college football. This season our panel includes: Rob Shields, Mike Lowe, Zack Kiesel, Brian (Pedro Cerrano) McGuire, Chris (Ricker Says) Ricker, Steve Birrer, and Chris Stoner. We are looking forward to another exciting season of college football and race to the College Football Playoff.
Rivalry Week has narrowed down the list of likely Playoff teams to just 7 for 4 spots. #1 LSU cruised over Texas A&M, #2 Ohio State came on big late to defeat arch rival Michigan, #3 Clemson had an easy time with in-state rival South Carolina, and #4 Georgia did the same against Georgia Tech. #5 Utah, #6 Oklahoma, and #9 Baylor all posted wins. #7 Alabama came up short in the Iron Bowl to end their outside hopes at getting in.
Now it’s on to Championship Weekend, where all will finally be settled. Two teams that currently hold Top 4 spots, LSU and Georgia, square off in the SEC Championship Game. A Georgia loss likely drops them out of the Playoff, but most observers think LSU could remain in the Top 4 if they were to be on the losing end. Ohio State will play #10 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game, and the Buckeyes might also be able to handle a loss and still stick in the Top 4. Clemson will play unranked Virginia, and the Tigers could be on much shakier ground if they don’t win due to a weaker schedule. Utah plays Oregon for the Pac-12 title, and along with a Georgia loss, the Utes must also hope Oregon falling out of the Top 10 does not hurt their resume too much should they win and be in position to move up one spot. On the other hand, when Oklahoma and Baylor play for the Big 12 Championship, each will hope a win against a higher-ranked opponent impresses the committee enough that they can leapfrog Utah. It will be a tremendous 24 hours of college football beginning Friday night in Santa Clara, so stay tuned!
