At Camden Yards tonight, Baltimore beat the Rays 5-4, ending Tampa’s 12 game winning streak against the Birds.
6’9 Mark Hendrickson provided 5.1 innings of work, allowing 1 er, 6hits, 2 walks, with 2 k’s.
Ultimately, you want Hendrickson in the bullpen in a swing-man capacity, but tonights outing was encouraging. The organization is asking him to help keep the rotation afloat until Hill can be recalled, and tonight he delivered.
The O’s offense knocked around Tampa starter Andy Sonnastine for 8hits, and 5 earned-runs, in his 4.2 innings of work. Sonnastine was clearly off his game, as he allowed 4 walks, after allowing only 37 walks in 193.1 innings in 2008.
Roberts, Jones, and Mora were each 2 for 4… Jones with 2 doubles, and Mora with 3 RBI.
I doubted the value Baez could provide the team all Winter, but for second-time this week he responded. Baez went 1.2 innings tonight, with 4 k’s… consistently hitting 94 on the OPACY radar-gun with movement.
Johnson allowed Evan Longoria’s 2nd homer of the night in the 8th, but Sherrill was able to close the game out in 9th, as he struck-out the side for the win – with a homer of his own allowed to Navarro.
Guthrie makes his second-start of the year tomorrow, and will attempt to give the Orioles their 2nd series win.
