Down 9 points at half-time, Coach Turgeon made moves to increase the effort of his Terrapins in the 2nd. Responding to those moves, the University of Maryland rallied to force OT. However, in OT, the Terps were not able to complete the comeback and lost 75-72. With the loss, the Terps finish their regular season at 16-14, and 6-10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Good:

1) Getting the start on Senior Day, Weijs started MD’s scoring with a nice jump-hook.

2) Every time Faust touched the ball, he looked to press the action. Faust did a good job splitting a UVA trap to find Padgett with a pass underneath. With about 5:30 left in the 1st half, Faust hit a 3. He followed that up with a teal on the next possession. He cut a crucial 3 to pull the Terps back within 7 at 53-46. Faust finished with 12 points, 3 boards, and 2 steals.

3) Len was doing good work on the boards, and had a big block (which should have led to a fast-break) with MD down 5 at the 12 minute mark of the 1st half. Getting a good feed from his teammates, Len hit a short jumper to begin the 2nd half. A sweet pass from Mosley led to a Len dunk. Great pass from Len to Padgett for a dunk. Len had 6 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks.

4) With his teammates spreading the floor at the top of the perimeter, Mosley drove the lane to score to pull the Terps within 6 at 24-18. The next time down the floor he hit a short jumper. In the 2nd half, you could see his intensity as he attacked. A 3 pointer from Mosley pulled the Terps within 1 at 41-40. Playing at both ends, he drew a charge on Scott, to get the ball for MD. Mosley had a great game, finishing with 17 points, 10 boards, and 4 assists.

5) I hated that he felt he had to deliver a message to his team, but I respect Coach Turgeon’s decision to start the 2nd half with a group a that would provide the effort he felt was needed. It clearly provided a spark, and ramped up the emotion at the Comcast Center.

6) Stoglin hit an open 3 to get MD within 4 at 53-49. With under 5 minutes left, he drew a foul on a long 2 point jumper. He hit a tough running lay-up with just under two minutes left. His 3 with under 10 seconds left in regulation tied the game, and forced OT. With 45 seconds left in OT, he hit another 3. Stoglin finished with 25 points, 3 boards, 3 steals, and 2 assists.

7) Great hustle from Padgett, throwing the ball off of a VA player to keep the ball in MD’s hands with just over 4 minutes left. Padgett had 9 points, and 7 boards.

8) Parker had two steals.

The Bad:

1) Down 9-4 early, Padgett missed a chance to cut into the lead with two missed FT’s. With MD down 12-7, Padgett turned the ball over leading to an open UVA 3. Padgett started 0 for 5 from the line, finishing 3 of 10 at the charity stripe. He had a bad turnover with about 11 minutes left in regulation. In OT, he missed a layup with the Terps down 2.

2) A lazy Pankey pass led to a Jontel Evans steal, and easy fast-break. Several minutes later, with the Terps down 15-9, Pankey blew an easy layup. After coming down with a good offensive board on the next possession, Pankey missed both of his foul shots. He managed to come down with another offensive board on the same possession, and threw-up a jump hook that missed basically everything from 2 feet away.

3) The Terps managed just 4 points in the first 6 minutes of the game.

4) Stoglin’s shot was not falling in the first half, as the Sophomore guard was just 3 of 12 from the floor, including 1 of 3 from 3. The play was poor enough, that Stoglin was chained to the bench to begin the 2nd half, behind walk-on Jonathan Thomas. For the game, Stoglin was 8 of 24 from the floor.

5) Faust dribbled a ball out of bounds in the 2nd half with little on the ball pressure. Later in the half he tried to get ball to Mosley up the court, and threw it out of bounds. Trying to find Weijs underneath, he delivered a fast-ball out of bounds. In OT, Faust would put Zeglinski on the line for two. In OT, he missed a 2nd foul shot, which prevented MD from starting their press. Faust had 6 turnovers overall, with 0 assists.

6) After Mosley pulled the Terps within 1, MD allowed a 7-0 run to fall back down by 8.

7) Parker fouled Zeglinski on a 3 point shot. Zeglinski was falling out of bounds on the shot, putting him on the line was a gift.

8) Mosley missed the front-end of a 1&1, with the Terps down 8 in the 2nd half.

9) MD was 14 of 26 from the FT line.

10) After scoring 12 points at Duke on 2/11, Parker has scored just 16 points in the 6 games since.

The Ugly:

1) While Coach Turgeon’s message to his team worked, you have to hate that the point had to be made.

2) Coach Turgeon picked up another technical foul.
