Troy Patton is having another suberb outing tonight for Bowie.

Patton went 6 innings tonight, allowing 3 hits, with 0er, 0 bb’s, and 6 k’s.
This is after his initial outing last week where he went 5 innings scoreless, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, with 3 k’s.
The fact that this 23 year-old (turns 24 in September) is performing at the AA level, in his initial outings of 2009 – after missing all of 2008 with a torn labrum – is extremely impressive.
I went into this year willing to disregard his performance, and was just hopeful he could regularly take the ball and provide innings.
Instead, Patton is forcing the issue that he could be an option for the rotation, sooner than later…
As I said last week, it should be remembered that while he made it to the Majors in 2007 as a 21 year-old… he only has 52 total innings above the AA level.
If you look at his previous AA numbers in particular… he was missing some bats, as evidenced by his per IP, but his K rate was just ok… and the walks were a bit of a concern. So it is even more encouraging seeing him have 9k’s, and 3 bb’s in 11 innings so far in 2009.
