Currently, the O’s 25 man roster is:
Guthrie, Uehara, Hendrickson, Eaton, Bergesen
Sherrill
Ray
Johnson
Walker
Sarfate
Albers
Baez
Bass
Roberts 2nd
Jones CF
Markakis RF
Huff 1st
Wigginton 3rd
Scott DH
Zaun C
Pie CF
Izturis SS
Moeller, Montanez, Andino
During the next month, there are logical reasons to believe the roster will improve… even when Roberts, Jones, and Markakis come back to Earth a bit.
1) Mora will return from the DL, moving Wigginton back to the bench… a wash in the everyday lineup, Wigginton improves the bench.
2) Wigginton going back to the bench, likely will mean a 12 man pitching staff, and a 4 man bench… which improves the flexibility of the roster.
3) Wieters might be in the lineup for Norfolk as early as tomorrow…. Once that happens, he is probably a week away from Baltimore. When Wieters is promoted, Zaun goes to the bench… and Moeller is released. Improvements all around.
4) If Montanez produces while Freel is on the DL, than Freel is likely to be released when available to be activated.
5) Rich Hill figures to be joining the staff within the next month.. Will help the rotation…
6) Eaton figures to be released when Hill joins the staff…
7) Pie has been horrible for 34 at bats…. His Minor League history says he is capable.. And certainly better than he has looked.
I think we can be looking at the following-roster sooner than May 21st… but at the minimum, by that date the roster should look like:
Guthrie, Uehara, Hendrickson, Hill, Bergesen
Sherrill
Ray
Johnson
Walker
Sarfate
Albers
Baez
Roberts 2nd
Jones CF
Markakis RF
Huff 1st
Mora 3rd
Scott DH
Wieters C
Pie CF
Izturis SS
Zaun, Wigginton, Montanez, Andino
