MD dropped their third game in four outings today, as they lost 73-76 to the Seminoles.

The loss moved the Terps to 12-5 overall, and 1-2 in the ACC.

I can only be so positive after another tough loss, but overall I am pleased about where MD is at.

The reality is that they all count as losses, but the Terps could have easily beat Morgan St, Miami, and FSU.

While they did not get a win vs any of the three, the Morgan game was the only game you were ‘counting’ on winning.

The fact that MD showed they could go on the road, and find a way to compete against athletic teams with size, bodes well for the rest of the season.

MD had a poor day from the FT line (13-19) and it cost them.

Thoughts/Notes from today:

– MD won on the boards 38-35
– Milbourne had 17pts, 9 boards, and 2 blocks
– Mosley had 13pts, 5 boards, 2 steals
– Gregory chipped in with a valuable 4pts, 2boards, 1 steal
– Bowie had another good game.. 14pts, 4boards, 4assists… back to back games he has fouled out though…
– Terps had success with their zone defense
– Neal had 8pts, 4boards, 2 assists… maybe more shots (8) than you would want him to have
– MD forced OT, after being down 11 on the road against a big, strong athletic team… with Hayes, and Vasquez having as poor of games as they can possibly play

I did not think that MD needed to beat either Miami or FSU to dance, but certainly winning one or both of these games would have made things easier.

The next five for MD are:

UVA @ home Tuesday 1/20
@Duke Sat 1/24
BC @ home Tuesday 1/27
Miami @ home Sat 1/31
@UNC Tues 2/3

Clearly, you expect to lose both road games… if you happen to steal a win at either, that is huge.

To dance, I still believe that MD will need to beat, UVA, BC, Miami, and VaTech at home… and find three wins against GaTech, Clemson, NCST, and UVA on the road.

Based on what I saw on this road-trip to Miami and FSU, I do believe MD can win each of those road games… including Clemson.

What I show above, gets them to 8 wins in conference and right on the door of the NCAAT.

If they add one win in the five games vs UNC, Duke, and Wake… they will make the tournament.
