I have made no secret that I think Wieters should be sent down to start 2009, and brought up April 17th to gain a full extra year of service-time with the Orioles.
To me, when you do not expect to contend, it is a no-brainer to have another year of his prime vs 3 weeks in 2009.
That said, as the days tick by… I am beginning to think there is the possibility of the Orioles having him in their Opening Day lineup this year.
Wieters is quoted today in Schmuck’s blog as saying he has not been told how long he will be here.
When he is in the lineup, Trembley is routinely batting him cleanup or 5th.
MacPhail, who parses everything he says, stated that Wieters will ‘probably’ be sent down. The fact that MacPhail did not make a definitive statement, leaves that door open.
