Jeff Errman of Inside MD Sports broke the news tonight that Steve Goins would be transferring from The University of Maryland.
This makes sense, as MD is already bringing in post-players Jordan Williams, and James Padgett in the in-coming freshman class… and possibly could also add DeShawn Painter.
The Baltimore Sun’s Matt Bracken detailed the latest on Painter, over the past weekend.

Keith Cavanaugh of the Terrapin Times, was on WNST with Bob Haynie Tuesday, and confirmed Painters upcoming visit to College Park.
There are a number of scenarios which could yet come to fruition… but the ideal situation would be:
Vasquez returns for his Senior season, and is joined by Lance Stephenson, and Painter.
1 Vasquez (Senior), Hayes (Senior)
2 Mosley (Soph), Bowie (Junior)
3 Stephenson (Frosh), Tucker (Junior), Kim (Soph)
4 Milbourne (Senior), Padgett (Frosh), Gregory (Junior)
5 Williams (Frosh), Painter (Frosh), Burney (Junior)
Ceiling – 12-4 in the ACC, Final Four Caliber
Floor – 10-6 in the ACC, Sweet 16
Re Vasquez returning – More will be known in a month after he has performed in the NBA Pre-Draft camps… but currently he is projected as a mid-to-late 2nd round draft-pick…. making it likely he will return to MD.
Re Stephenson coming – It is clear that Kansas was his #1 choice… and he was waiting for the X.Henry situation to resolve itself. With Henry to Kansas, he has to reevaluate… he has said repeatedly, that St John’s and MD were contenders… If your number 1 option is no longer available… you have to sit-back, and look at the situation differently. Does he want to stay home, play in NYC… play in the Big East… face consistent double and triple teams with limited talent around him… Since he wants to be 1 and done, he has to decide what program can likely help him more. I think it is pretty apparent that Vasquez is coming back… but if you are on the outside looking in… that might not be clear. I keep coming back to Stephenson’s quote about liking Gary, and be interested in playing for a coach like that, that would push him. When you see the comments on Zagsblog about the Stephenson camp thinking Gary’s Flex is too restricting… somehow I have doubts those feelings are from Stephenson himself. We will see what it is, that he really wants… eventually, even with everyone in his ears… Stephenson will have to decide what he thinks is best for him. I think people killing a 17year old kid for not being decisive are being a bit harsh. Hopefully he will look at the situation, and realize that MD can be extremely good if he comes…
Re Painter coming – His decision is expected roughly two weeks from now… he has visited VaTech… is visiting NCST this weekend…and will visit MD next weekend. Replacing Goins with Painter on the roster would be a strong step forward.
