As I have discussed in several previous entries, Troy Patton continues to exceed expectations at AA Bowie.
I said all Winter the organization and fans should not worry at all about results from Patton… that if you got him taking the ball most 5th days, and he gavie you 120+ innings at the AA/AAA level in 2009.. that maybe he could be an option in 2010.
I was the one reminding people that not only was he coming off the torn labrum and missing a year… that he only 49 innings at AAA, and 12.2 in the bigs… and while the most important thing when looking at those number he accumulated, was taking note of his age… that there were some red flags there. (Control rate, and lack of K’s as he progressed)
I was ready to be patient.. but things have changed…
Patton is now 3-0, with a 0.95 era in 28.1 innings, allowing 16 hits, 3 er, 8 bb’s, with 21 k’s.
At the absolute minimum he should go to AAA…
I think you can make a real arguement that after Eaton’s start Saturday, that the O’s should promote both Hill and Patton to the bigs… release Walker, and move Hendrickson to the bullpen.
One thing I think the O’s should keep in-mind, is that if they want to evaluate Patton in the Majors at some point during 2009, it should be sooner than later.
At some-point during this year.. likely during the hot-humid days of August, Patton figures to tire out… bringing him up later in the year, when his arm is tired out.. and trying to evaluate him then would be a mistake.
The domination Patton is showing at Bowie is the story of the organization right now…
