Rich Hill makes his Oriole debut today in Kansas City.
Him joining the rotation, should be the start of consistently improved play for the Orioles during the remainder of 2009.
Hill turned 29 on March 11th.
In 2007, with the Cubs Hill was 11-8, with a 3.92 era. In 195 innings, he allowed 170 hits, 63 walks, with 183 k’s. He held hitters to a .695 OPS against.
Prior to this season, I projected Hill to have 30 starts… go 10-10, with a 4.75 era, 180 innings, 170 hits, 180 k’s, and 75 walks.
I have basically thrown out the 2008 season for Hill. The only thing of consequence I take from last year are the back issues, which Hill says are behind him. I think he will provide regular innings, and be strong in his hits per IP, and k-ratio.. I think you will continue to see him struggle with control.
As he moves to the AL East, I anticipate a significant rise to hise era vs 2007 in the NL Central.
With Hill having missed about 7 starts… I now project his season ending numbers to look like:
2009 projected- 23 starts, 8-8, 4.75 era, 138 innings, 130 hits, 138 k’s, and 55 walks.
Not only do the O’s get the benefit of adding Hill to the rotation, but Hendrickson has been removed (and added to the bullpen where he can help)…
With Hill joining the team… the O’s will now be focused on replacing Adam Eaton with a Hernandez, or a Patton etc shortly.
By early-June, this team will be transformed.
