For the third time in a week, the Baltimore Orioles have staged a great come-back in the late innings.
Trailing 6-1 heading to the top of the 8th, the O’s have scored 5 runs in the last two innings to force extra-innings.
There were worries heading into the game, that the heat and humdity of Miami would prove too much for Uehara. However, by game-time the temperature was only 73 degrees.
Uehara responded by pitching 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 1er, 0 bb’s, with 2 k’s. It was a pretty strong-outing considering that Uehara only made 76 total pitches.
Danys Baez relieved Uehara and was only able to record 1 out before letting up 5 er, including a grand-slam to Ramirez. Baez’s era jumped from 3.22 to 4.42.
In the 8th inning, Baltimore’s rally was started by Matt Wieters 2nd career home-run.
In the 9th, the O’s scored 3 runs with 2 out. Mora singled to LF with none on, and Scott singled batting for Chris Ray. Wieters singled knocking in Mora, and Guthrie was summoned to pinch-run for Wieters. Wigginton and Salazar then both singled knocking in Scott, and Guthrie to tie the game.
Besides the come-back, the other great thing to see tonight was the return of Ray. Ray pitched 1.2 innings, without allowing a hit or a walk, and striking-out 1.
Baltimore did not score in the Top of the 10th, and Jim Johnson is now trying to move this game to the 11th.
